As the big show neared, the Natural-Funk spent the week fine tuning their sound and rehearsing for their big opportunity. They knew this was their big chance to earn that elusive record deal, tour the world, or both. The lead singer received a text from Tom to check out the link to the event and the Natural-Funk were highlighted as openers. It was the first time in their young career that they saw the name of their band on a poster.
The previous college bars and clubs they played at were all word of mouth. It was mostly talk on all the college campuses that attracted their crowds. Tom gave them even more good news reporting that there was a bump in ticket sales after their inclusion to the lineup.
This show for the Natural-Funk would not be a usual three- or four-hour marathon that they were used to providing rowdy college students. This crowd would be a mixture of adults of all age ranges and their set would be a short 30 minutes. Tom advised them to pick their best stuff since there would be other members of the industry in attendance besides him.
After carefully reviewing the roughly 20 songs the band had in their arsenal, they chose six that the all members thought would wow the crowd. Their goal was to steal the show from the bands to follow them. They did not care if the headliner of the event were to get displeased by a thrilling performance.
Natural-Funk was there to make a splash in the music industry. They made a secret post on their social media pages revealing their chosen set list and wishing to see all their amazing fans in attendance. The news spread amongst the younger crowd of the massive opportunity the band had in front of them. More and more college students in the area posted on their social media pages that would be attending the event at the casino to see their favorite band.
There was even a Natural-Funk hashtag that started because of the hoopla that began due to the band’s secret post.
Tom’s nephew told him of the band now playing the event at the big casino and Tom just smiled at him. Two days before the event, it was announced that the concert was sold out. The Natural-Funk band members were surprised it was not already sold out and they wondered if it was because of them.
That is the attitude they carried into the show and brought an electrifying performance for the audience. They played mostly faster, up tempo songs to get the crowd involved and video footage of their performance quickly spread. They had everyone in attendance on their feet and moving along to the music. After Natural-Funk played the last song of their set, the crowd chanted for an encore.
They band was itching to go out there and give them more, but the stage manager said it was not allowed with them being the opener. Although they were disappointed not giving an encore, they would soon be welcomed by a contract offer to a record deal from Tom.
